The cashew nut production targeted for the current season 2015/2016 is about 100 tons, exceeding by 20 000 tonnes the amount recorded in the completed campaign this year, said the deputy director of the National Cashew Institute (Incaju).
Carlos Mucavel recently said that to achieve that goal the Incaju will spray more than 4 million cashew trees and promote simultaneous actions to promote the culture through distribution of more than 3.3 million seedlings throughout the country.
Mucavel, who was speaking at Chibuto, in the course of the national planning institute meeting, recalled that the cashew nut is a product that is the basis of livelihood and income generation for about 1.4 million families throughout the country.
The production of cashew nuts in Mozambique occurs mainly in the north, with a contribution of approximately 57%, followed by the central region, with 24%, and finally, the south, with 19%.
The deputy director of Incaju pointed out the need to increase primary processing volumes nuts, increasing the number of factories that currently stands at 23 as well as the secondary processing, "and it is therefore necessary to mobilize investment for the construction of industrial units."
"Our power lines have increased production, primary processing and secondary processing, in quality and quantity, guaranteeing income for households involved in the cashew crop," said National Deputy Director, quoted by daily newspaper Notícias .
